Description

NOVELNY is an electronic resource access project that enables libraries across New York State to give their communities online access to the full text of thousands of journals, newspapers, and other references. Currently the NOVELNY Project provides online access to several databases. These include:

Business & Company Resource Center: Includes company profiles, brand information, company histories, SEC reports, periodical articles, and links to relevant Web sites.

Gale Virtual Reference Library: The NOVELNY subscription to the Gale Virtual Reference Library includes eighteen reference e-books that cover historical, business and health or medical subjects. Business resources include: Business Plans Handbook (volumes 5-10), Encyclopedia of Small Business, and Gale Encyclopedia of E-Commerce.

Primary Search: Contains full- text of 57 popular, basic school magazines plus almanacs, an encyclopedia, and a dictionary. Indexing and abstracting for 80+ titles. Full- text is also available for over 100 student pamphlets. Full text articles are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles). For a more graphical interface.

Searchasaurus: Searchasaurus is a colorful interface to Primary Search. Designed specifically for elementary school libraries, it contains full-text for more than 50 popular, elementary school magazines. Full-text is also available for over 100 student pamphlets, an encyclopedia and a dictionary. Full-text articles are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles).

Health & Wellness Resource Center: This database contains articles from medical publications and general interest publications on medical topics; medical pamphlets; a health organization directory; medical and alternative health encyclopedias; a medical dictionary; drug and herb information; health assessment tools; and links to health news and Internet sources.

Twayne Authors Series: Contains the full text of the Twayne Literary Masters books which provide biographical and literarary criticism information on a wide variety of World, US, or English authors.

Infotrac Custom Newspapers: This full-text newspaper database has several New York Newspapers including the New York Times from 1995 on, and over fifty national and international newspapers.

National Newspaper Index: Provides indexing (1977 to present) of America's top five newspapers: The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Christian Science Monitor, Los Angeles Times and The Washington Post. Indexing only.

New York State Newspapers: A subset of InfoTrac Custom Newspapers, this database includes the following full-text newspapers from around New York State: Albany Times Union, Buffalo News, New York Times, New York Post, New York Observer, Syracuse Herald American, Syracuse Herald-Journal, and Syracuse Post-Standard.

Provided by the New York State Library, NOVELNY connects New Yorkers to 21st century information. NOVELNY is supported with temporary federal Library Services and Technology Act funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). The New York Knowledge Initiative is a proposal for permanent state funding for NOVELNY.
